The Owner
Justine Goulet is the founder and primary glass artist of Lake Life Studio. As a passionate art lover and theatregoer, Justine knew at a young age she would work in the arts in some form.
She completed her Bachelor of Fine Arts in Performance Production from Ryerson University in 2012 and was an apprentice at Canada’s National Ballet School in the wardrobe department. She then moved to Dublin, Ireland for a year where she went on to earn a Masters in Philosophy of Performance Art from Trinity College in 2013.
Returning back to her home on the shores of Lake Huron, she continued working in the theatre industry until she discovered the art of glass fusing. Justine was hired by Bonnie Doone Glass, a small glass fusing company that took her on as an apprentice, where she learned the foundations of glass making. From there, Justine developed her own style and gained renewed inspiration for writing her own story in the world of glass art.
Lake Life Studio was established in July 2015 with the intention of creating custom glass pieces as well as curating a beautiful space that features various artisans. Glass vessel sinks, glass cabinetry inserts and glass backsplash panels are Justine’s specialty. Collaborating with designers and clients is the most exciting part of Justine’s creative process. She is passionate when it comes to designing and realizing unique art pieces that serve as functional elements for a variety of spaces.
Justine is inspired by her surroundings - our natural world and her heritage. As a Metis woman, she looks to her elders for creative energy and incorporates indigenous influences and animals throughout her work. Coming from a family of artists, craftsmanship and authenticity core values not only seen in Justine’s work, but also in the work of the other artisans she chooses to showcase in the boutique.
When Justine isn’t at the studio, you can find her paddle boarding on Lake Huron, walking her dog Daizy, and spending time with her family and friends. She is also a volunteer energy exchange student at Inner Dawn Yoga Studio and a volunteer costal watcher for The Lake Huron Centre for Costal Conservation.
